This medal by J. P. M. Menger celebrates the completion of the railway line connecting Pretoria in South Africa to Delagoa Bay in Mozambique. The obverse displays the bust of Paul Kruger (President of the South African Republic) facing to the left, while the reverse contains a winged wagon wheel on a rail with thunderbolts behind.

Rex says, "The finest known example of this popular type, this piece exhibits much cleaner surfaces than the usual and a pleasing, earthy color that almost brings the obverse portrait to life."
